Our History

The Terra Linda Christian Homes were founded in 1976 to meet the needs of local families with elderly members who could no longer live safely at home. The fear of leaving a loved parent alone, or alone in the hands of strangers in the home, created a real need for safe, dependable care in a loving, warm environment away from home.

TLCH met this need with such success that in a short number of years three more homes were added. Soon, out of the area, and even out of state residents began moving in, as delighted local families spread the word.

In 1992, the original founders, desiring to retire from their 24/7 schedule, started looking for a person who had similar values, commitment, warmth and a real love for elderly people and their unique needs. They were looking for someone who would assure the continuity of the reputation of quality of TLCH. After more than a year of interviewing potential successor, the original owners fianlly found such a couple. TLCH was sold to Zina and Valery Gluzman in 1993. Zina Gluzman had experience in elderly care and has carried on the tradition while adding her own style and warmth.

History repeated itself, and due to the continuing demand for the quality care that TLCH maintained, a fifth residential care home was established in 1996.

Our Philosophy

The success of TLCH is attributed to our unwavering commitment to our resident and their families. We take a very special approach to assisted living.

For our elderly residents, we provide a warm, safe, caring environment where all of the their needs are met. We make sure our resident feel that they are living in a real home, and not in an institution, a nursing home, or a hotel. We provide loving assisted living care, while respecting the individual privacy of our residents.

For our residents' families, we are committed to alleviating the stress and doubt that is always associated with moving an elderly parent from home. The quality of our homes makes it easier for the families to feel that they are doing their best for their elderly parents or relatives, not that they are just "putting them out" of their homes.

Our People

Proving exceptional residential care takes a very special group of people. Many think they can take care of an elderly person, but it takes a very special person to do it well and from the heart. That is our first consideration…the heart factor.

Consequently, because we have loving people in our employment, and because we treat them well in return, our employees stay for many years, providing continuity of quality care for our residents. Several of our current staff members have been with us for over five years, others have stayed with us for as long as ten years prior to retirement, with the record being eighteen years!

Attracting, training and retaining fine employees enables TLCH to provide exceptional care to our residents and genuine relief for their concerned families.

Food is Important

Good food is a very important part of eldercare, not only for health, but also for enjoyment. Mealtime should be an eagerly anticipated part of the day's events. Just because one is "along in years" does not always mean the taste buds are too. We provide interesting and diverse menus that aim to please. Because each TLCH home has only six residents, we are able to cater to individual preferences. Our meals are planned and cooked differently in each home, not in a centralized kitchen. If your parent likes tofu, tofu will be served! We are here to make people happy and food is a major player.

We offer a "teatime (or coffee") in the afternoons instead of "naptime." Residents may still nap another time if they wish, but this socializing and snacking "revs" them up and stimulates them. The fun interactions are enjoyed by all.

Entertainment

Our social director's program keeps our residents stimulated with games, exercise and music. We have outside entertainers on special occasions (the Elvis impersonator is a huge hit whenever he comes…) Of course; holidays are big events, with all the families invited. Birthdays are always celebrated in a special way.
